Spellthread I said!

I just scoped out this opportunity last night while trying to figure out to do with about 25 Primal Lifes I had bought at about 19-20g each (the current selling price was around 17g). I saw some people in trade chat asking for someone to craft them a Golden Spellthread. Instead of offering to do so for what would be a standard “mats +10g,” I had a look in the AH and saw Golden Spellthread selling for 330g.

Now, I could’ve snatched up 10 Primal Lifes for 170g, a Primal Nether for 40g (seems to be the equilibrium price on my realm’s AH), the Rune Thread is a mere 50s, and I would’ve spent 210g, give or take. I’m a tailor, so I can make the Golden Spellthread directly, but let’s imagine you’re not; advertise in trade, cough up another 10g, you’ve spent 220g. Let’s be pessimistic and say it only ends up selling on the AH for 300g. The AH cut is 5% or 15g, so you get back 285g. *BAM* I just made you 65g in 4 sentences. And it doesn’t end there. I noticed the price differential between the mats and actual Silver Spellthread in the AH was even more astonishing.

Here are the four spellthread recipes we believe you can make decent gold off of by buying the mats at the low end of their equilibrium price and turning them around with a Tailor:

Golden Spellthread
Runic Spellthread
Mystic Spellthread
Silver Spellthread

Take advantage of this now, before the market corrects itself. This opportunity is largely due to a high supply of post-2.4 BOE Primal Nethers.

    Hello!

Popped on to your site after WoWInsider’s plug. I like it very much including the Riskometers. :D I also view http://www.mmoauctioneer.com/ and http://ogsledger.blogspot.com/ but both seem to be rarely updated of late. I’m of the opinion someone can get their epic flying mount money easy in a month just by acting on the Auction House. I took 30 gold of seed money and turned it into 100 in a week. After a couple months of casual AHing I’m over 3000. I intend to get a little more hardcore as I can see that epic flying ray in my sights. :D

Again, good site and I will be checking in now and again.

I highly advise getting auctioneer and doing regular scans. People regularly post blues and purples at 25-50% of their average selling price. Especially with the high-dollar items, this can lead to huge profits. Setting the filter to ‘rare’ and clicking through a few pages of weapons, armor and recipes will let you find the deals quickly. Personally, I only ever buy stuff selling below 60% and I avoid low-cost/low-return items, especially when they’re high-level; the deposits on a lv70 2H weapon will suck your profit dry pretty quickly.

Granted, no matter how low you think you’re buying something (50g for Krol Blade??)– someone’s still got to buy it from you. No one wants my Krol Blade. Still, I managed to get from greens&blues when I hit 70 to blues&purples in a month without ever leaving Ironforge. Good luck and hopefully no one else from my server reads this post!

Came here from WoWInsider. I’ll be keeping an eye on you, nice ideas/tips and well writen. Congrats!

Primal Nethers are running 130g and up on our server, so the profitability will vary. I’ve made a fair chunk of change buying them at 85g and selling them at 129g. Then again, Primal Lifes 5g-7g, so it all balances out.

    Hello!
Came here from wowinsider, i really like the posts, including the risk-o-meter!

    Good luck with your blog!

I just started reading your blog yesterday and it think you have some great idea here (i already made some gold with the 3g netherweave trick).

But I just wanted to suggest that the same thing you do with spellthreads can be done with leatherworking leg armors (and i’ve been doing it for a while on my LW), specifically the Nethercleft Leg Armor and Nethercobra Leg Armor, i hope you add those to your list :D

    Hey !

I’ve been looking for a blog like that for quite some time now, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the link on WowInsider :)

Keep up the good work, I sure will check back here often !

Also Spellthread has been a good way to invest for quite some time now, I’m looking forward to more twisted ideas to make money !

Nice site, I’ll be checking in. As a question (or a suggestion for a potential post) what addons (if any) do you use for trending, or just general economic information? Thanks!

Just found your site - can’t wait to start reading. You should do your next post on gems, since there were big changes in 2.4. Or if you need my help, I can tell you what I’m up to. I think I’m making about 500-800G a night since the patch! Epic mount here I come!

i agree i would love to see a jewelcrafting post. Random Ravings of Warcraft(http://rrvs.blogspot.com/) has a good section on it but not in depth enough.

Saw your spellthread post and like Stefano said, on most servers the LW armor kits sell for insane profits. Usually I can farm up the 2 Cobra scales neccesary for the Cobrahide kit in 5-10 min, less if i’m lucky, then run to the AH to buy 4 primal airs (avg 20g most servers) and with that 80g investment + 10 min farming i can sell off the kits from anywhere between 150-175g depending on the market that day, and thats only for hte Blue recipe, the Epic version is much more profitable.

  16. Jose Says:

Spellthread is easy money and more profitable when some noob floods the AH with primal manas at 15g or less:

    1) Primal Manas 15g x 5 = 75g
    2) Rune Thread = 50s
    3) Make thread = free
    4) List spellthread at 120+
    5) ???
    6) 50g+ easy profit

Your mileage may vary depending on your server. Sometimes they take a little longer than others but they sell no matter. Notice that in my steps I do 0 mins in farming. If I were to farm my own manas (yeah right) I’d make a bigger profit, but meh, I let the farm people do that for me ;)

  17. Jason Says:

It’s worth noting that (on my server at least, RP-PVP) the market has more Scryer tailors trying to sell damage thread. High end Aldor tailors seem to be less common or less interested in making a profit. =B

Because of this, Runic Spellthread (epic damage) only sells for 300-350 versus Golden Spellthread (epic healing) for 400-450. Silver Spellthread (rare healing) is almost never posted and consistently sells at about 150g, yet Mystic Spellthread (rare damage) is currently flooded with the price dropping as low as 75g.

Still, there’s also the Primal Mana (used for damage) market versus the Primal Life (used for healing) market to consider, with Mana prices constantly crashing down to 10g a piece, while Life prices usually hold at around 20g.

In the end, don’t get caught up selling one or the other. The market may favor one type or quality, but spread your mat investment out so that you can post all brands at once as opposed to banking on a single thread, or worse, flooding the market with multiple threads of the same kind.
